First Contest of the Year

I'm so excited about how many books everyone has read so far! I wish I could read every single review, but I just can't keep up! Thanks again, everyone, for participating!

Ready for the first contest? Don't worry, you don't even have to have read your first book yet. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post answering these simple questions.

1. Which category was the hardest to find a book for?
2. Have you read any of your books yet?
3. If so, which categories have you already tackled?

I'll draw a winner on April 1st. The winner will receive a $10 Amazon gift certificate. (Make sure I have a way of contacting you, in case you're the winner.)

n/a. I really need to stop ignoring all those challenges I signed up for :P It's not that I'm not excited about them, it's just that other books keep getting in the way :P

I had the hardest time finding a time-of-day book - there was only one on my to-be-read list, whereas in most other categories I had lots to choose from.

As far as progress, I've read and reviewed three so far: my medical condition (The Blind Assassin), profession (Death Comes for the Archbishop), and body part (The Ivory Leg in the Ebony Cabinet) books.

Is it too late to sign up for this challenge? I hope not as I have been working on it on my own blog until early this morning when my research paid off and I heard from your Mom who let me know this is where WHAT'S IN A NAME-2 belongs! I have emailed the 4 people who were doing it and have taken it off my blog and written a post about you and directing my people here. I hope that is OK. The badge on my blog links people directly here. My post about it can be seen at
http://bookinwithbingo.blogspot.com/2009/02/bingos-first-book-challenge.html SO if it isn't too late, I am going to enter as I have a few done already. GREAT Challenge Annie, and thanks for letting me play! By the way, I hope you come by BOOKIN' WITH BINGO to enter some of the great giveaways I have. I thought perhaps I noticed your name earlier? :D

1. Hardest category for me was (and still is) medical condition. And I wouldn't think that as I like thrillers and they usually have some kind of medical condition.

2/3. I have read 2 of the books already - the Body part (Lovely Bones)and Building (Trail of Crumbs: Hunger, Love, and the Search for Home.)

I've read two books for the challenge so far and written my first review (The Chemist.

The hardest category for me was the medical condition. I read a bunch a year or so ago for a different challenge and just didn't have many books left that qualified.

The two categories done are 1 and 3 (but I still need to review my book for 3).

1. Does it disqualify me if I say that I had no problem thinking of a book for each category? Yeah, I have that many books to read sitting around.
2. I've done every book but building, and I'll probably use The Two Towers for that. I've been wanting to re-read it for some time, and this gives the perfect excuse.
3. Medical condition, relative, occupation, body part, and time of day.

Bingo said...

I also found medical condition hardest to find. After all, most insurance companies can't decide what is considered a "medical condition" or not :D
I have read and reviewed all my books in all the categories and have posted them and links to my reviews below. Is that all I need to do for now? Thanks for a fun contest!

1. I don't know about hardest yet, but the easiest was a building. It was almost disappointing how easy it was. KWIM?

2. I've read 2 books for the challenge and want to find new and interesting titles for the others. So I'm taking my time.

3. Relative and building. I have one for time of day but not sure if I'll go with it or swap it for something else.

I can't figure out how to sign up for the challenge without having a link, but I'm still going to read!
1. Medical condition - I think that one might take a while to find one that sounds interesting
2. No - I just found your site today - and I haven't taken a speedreading class :-)

1. The hardest one for me was medical condition. I had to stretch to find one that "sort of met" that! I just don't read a lot of medical related subject matter.
2. I have read 4 of the 6 so far!
3. I have finished Profession, Time of Day, Building and the toughie, Medical Condition :)

Happy Reading!

1. I didn't have any trouble finding books; I had a hard time narrowing it down and a few of them fit more than one category! One of them fit three categories! (The Bonesetter's Daughter).

2. I have actually finished the challenge, but have yet to write one review.

3. All done! My list of books:

* The Bonesetter's Daughter (profession)
* The Night Watch (time of day)
* The Heretic's Daughter (relative)
* Ship Fever (medical condition)
* Open House (building)
* The Vigorous Mind: Cross Train Your Brain to Break Through Mental, Emotional and Professional Boundaries. (This was for a book blog tour).

I was too excited about this challenge to drag it out. I'll be posting reviews in the next couple of weeks.

After I win the contest ;o) you can contact me at teelgee7 AT gmail DOT com. Thanks Annie!

I have had a hard time with the body part category. The book I want to read isn't going to be published until the fall and I am not sure if I can hold out for that long so I am looking for another.

I have read four books and reviewed three...

Time of day "Breaking Dawn"
Medical Condition "Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict"
Relative "The Heretic's Daughter"
Building "Princess Academy"

Anonymous said...

1. The building was definitely the most difficult - the book I ended up with was required reading for my masters!

2. I've finished three.

3.Darn building book - "The Battle Over School Prayer" as well as the time of day "Dawn" and profession "The Bookseller of Kabul"

Paula said...

1. The hardest category for me was the medical condition. Still not sure if I'm happy with my choice.
2. I've read three for the challenge, but two were in the same category.
3. I have read 2 for the profession category, Dr. Doolittle and Blessed are the Cheesemakers, and 1 for the body parts category, Fall On Your Knees. I have just started my book for the building category, The Glass Castle.

Thanks for another fun challenge!

tanabata said...

I guess the most difficult category was medical condition, but even for that one I found a few books in my TBR piles after giving it some thought. And then I read one last month that I hadn't originally thought of but fit the category too.

So I've already read books for 3 categories:
Time - After Dark by Murakami Profession - An Artist of the Floating World by Ishiguro
Medical Condition - The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Tolstoy

For me, finding a book with a building in the title was the hardest. I had decided that all my choices are going to be Australian or new Zealand, see http://anzlitlovers.wordpress.com/challenges/the-what%e2%80%99s-in-a-name-challenge/ but after a huge internet search (I take my challenges seriously!) I have finally been able to track down two which fit the category: Water Under the Bridge by Sumner Locke Elliot, and The Little Hotel by Christina Stead, which fits the category even more closely.
I've read two 'profession' books, (The Lieutenant by Kate Grenville and The Zookeeper's War by Steven Conte, see my reviews on the link above.
I think I'm going to read my 'Medical Condition' next, which will be The Blind Eye by Georgia Blain.
Thanks for organising this, Debi, it's good fun.

1. The hardest category for me is the title with a medical condition.

2. I've finished three books (2 in the "body part" category)

3. So far I've tackled the "body part" - Fire in the Blood and By the Pricking of My Thumbs and "building" - Castle Dor categories.

No need to enter me into the contest. I have so many library books that I wouldn't know what to do with an Amazon gift certificate.

1. Medical conditions was the hardest, but I dug up 8 on my TBR list.

2. I have just finished my first book for the challenge: The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison.

3. That was a "body part" book.

For people who are having problems coming up with books that meet certain categories, I have a good size list compiled from some of my TBR lists that may give you some ideas:

Yay, first contest!!!

1. One of my ongoing challenge rules, that I started last year when I quit requiring book lists for the challenges I host, was to not make lists when I do challenges and instead just go with my whims. With your categories, I suspect that "medical condition" is going to be my hardest to stumble across. Time will tell if I am correct with that guess. :)

2. I have not read any books that I have counted for your challenge yet. I haven't done a lot of reading in Feb. and did much less in Jan. than I am used to. However, I feel that I'm coming out of that slump and am hoping that I find books for Once Upon a Time that also magically have titles that fit in with What's In a Name (fingers crossed).

3. Guess I just answered this one with the above question. Sorry.

I'm so glad you are hosting this once again. You are quite the young lady! Certainly an inspiration.

(My first commented has been deleted - I dunno why...)

1. I think the two hardest for me were "medical condition" and "time of day". (I've read The curious incident of the dog in the night-time in December...this would have fit so perfectly...)

2. I've read a couple of books, but only one for this challenge yet.

3: The relative category: Hanna's Daughters by Marianne Fredriksson. There is a review on my blog.

Happy reading @ all!

Ellie said...

1. For me, all of the categories were quite easy to fill, the difficulty was in choosing which book to read.

2. I have finished reading one book and am nearing the end of another.

3. I read from the "profession" category first - i.e. The Player of Games - and the one I am tackling now is from the "relative" category.

Anonymous said...

1) The hardest category for me was building (profession was hard, too).

2) I read the body part one, but I haven't read any others.

1. Medical condition for sure! I own "The Plague" but am a bit wary of reading any more Camus as I *hated* "The Stranger"! I was trying to go with a condition other than death but that's probably what I'll end up with anyway.

2 and 3. I have -- I'm done with building and profession (Castle in the Air by Diana Wynne Jones and Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie). I'm just going to do one post on my LJ with all six books eventually.

1. Which category was the hardest to find a book for?
Medical condition made me think the hardest, beyond books I had planned to read.
2. Have you read any of your books yet?
yes, I've read two categories
3. If so, which categories have you already tackled?
Interestingly, the first book I read was medical condition! I've also finished body part. Turns out profession is now the hardest to find a book for since I'm not interested in reading the ones I originally picked out.

stacy muszynski said...

1. Toughest to find: hmmmm, none really. For me the difficulty comes in thinking I should have kept looking for some categories, like 'relative'...

2. NONE! I'm reading other stuff! Yipes.

3. Again, none. I guess I'll have to put down Anna Karenina if I want to get started, huh?

Anonymous said...

1. Toughest category to find a book for was absolutely the medical condition cateogry.
2. Yes I've started - almost finished actually!
3. I've read books for all the categories except the profession category - and I should be reading that one later this month or in early April. :)

Beth F said...

1. The hardest category was the medical condition (like everyone else!).

2. I've read two books:

3. Profession: Lincoln Lawyer
Time of day: The Dead of the Night.

(reviews on my blog!)

I'm having lots of fun with this challenge -- thanks again for hosting.

1. Which category was the hardest to find a book for? I knew I wanted to choose Wodehouse books for this challenge and since he has written 92 books I got lucky in that more than six of his titles fulfilled the challenge categories.
2. Have you read any of your books yet? I have read two.
3. If so, which categories have you already tackled? The building category (Blandings Castle) and the relative category (Uncle Fred in the Springtime).

Tiffany Norris said...

1. I think the "body part" was the hardest for me, but I was operating from my stacks/TBR list. So I kind of limited myself. :)
2. I have read two of my books--Wife in the North and Love in the Time of Cholera. Loved both!
3. These were from the relative and medical condition categories.
Thanks again for hosting the challenge!

Kat at Book Thingo said...

1. I still haven't found books for the medical condition and building categories.
2. I've read 3
3. Profession: Courtesan, Time of day: Twilight, Body part: Tail (I realise I'm skirting the boundaries of a couple of the categories there)

Captain Nick Sparrow said...

1. Definitely a title with a medical condition!
2. I have read 3 books for the challenge.
3. All 3 books are books with a profession in the title!

Becca said...

1. The hardest category for me has been the title with a medical condition. I have read books about a medical condition but nothing in the title.

2. I have read one book so far for the challenge.

3. Relative: Secret Daughter by June Cross
